Pilot Pins

The pilot pin or centre pin as it is also known, is used for ejecting the slug from the centre of the cutter on completion of the hole. The pilot pin is also used as the central focal point when positioning the drill on the pre marked steel. The pilot also performs another function as it retracts in to the arbor in allowing the coolant flow to the inside of the cutting teeth to extend the tool life.

Please note, most magnetic drilling machines will only allow the pilot pin to retract 2" (50mm) into the arbor. when cutting plate with a thickness of above 2" (50mm), we suggest our 2 part detachable pilot pins, which allow cutting through a solid thickness of upto 6" (150mm) without having the fully remove the pilot pin to complete the cut.  See details below
